Totally meant to post more about Portugal, but alas here we are more than a month later.
To make things short and sweet, because now my trip is quite a blur, I had such a great experience and I cannot wait to go back one day. I fantasized about wanting to uproot my entire life and move there before even having visited in the first place. Romanticization is a very good skill of mine.
Now with the state of America, that idea might be back on the table.
First, I have to thank the local students of my study abroad program who took us under their wings and showed us such a good fucking time. We did a pottery class in a sick art gallery/ warehouse, a boat party with dinner and an open bar, castle tours, food tours, bar crawls, and a surfing class under the most amazing sunset.
Surfing was so fulfilling for me. I taught myself how to really surf during Covid times when I still lived in New Hampshire. I idolized the pros and started dreaming of Portugal and the iconic 100 ft wave. To be able to see Nazare in person and also surf Portuguese waters makes me tear up honestly thinking about it. I’m just so blessed and so grateful.
Even the times that were challenging and pushed me out of my comfort zone, I only have fond memories looking back. I’m thankful for all the individuals who made me feel whole while I was traveling alone. I was never alone, actually, I barely had any downtime or quiet moments whatsoever. And I wouldn’t have had it any other way. <3
( Jwow, Daniel, Mariana, Leonor, Speedy, THANK YOU)
We’re back in Denver, back to reality, back to my family with Richie and the kitties, and back to the freaking grind. A full semester at MSU, a tattoo course with Chloe Jane, and a humble servant job at Root Down.
Still looking for a studio mate here at Bitfactory Gallery, but in the meantime, I painted an accent wall and I can’t tell if I love it or hate it. I have ideas to make it more cohesive because I can never sit still or ever let things be.
Starting to participate in First Friday art walks to get my name and business out there. I found that offering out free tattoos is quite a good way to do that. I have a “tattoo suggestion box” with submissions for callbacks once I’m ready this spring/summer. Like many of you, I cannot wait :)
The next First Friday is March 7th and I’ll have some lovely friends joining and putting up their art. Would love to see you there.
Until then.
